  1. The world says, “follow your heart.” It’s believed that your heart is a compass inside of you that will direct you in the right path, if you just have the courage to follow it. The world says, your heart is a true guide that will lead you into happiness if you, if you just have the courage to listen to it.

This may sound so beautiful and liberating. For lost people, it’s a tempting creed to believe.

Let’s think about that for a moment. What does your heart tell you?

No one has to answer that :). Your heart has said things that you would never say out loud. I know mine has. My heart tells me that I ought to give in to all my desires. My heart likes to think evil towards others, it can also find a an angry thought justifiable.

Our hearts will not save us, we need to be saved from the intentions in our hearts by being born again (John 3 1-7). The “follow your heart” that the world suggest certainly isn’t found in the Bible. Jeremiah 17:9 says “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it? Then Jesus said, for out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies (Matthew 15:19).

The truth is no one lies more to us than our heart does. Our heart doesn’t tell us the truth; it just tells us what we want. Our heart wants to consume things for own self glory and self-centeredness.

Our heart was never designed to be followed, but to be lead by the Holy Spirit. If we ask our hearts to led us, it will lead us to misery and ultimate destruction. The issue with our heart is the heart of our problem. But if our hearts believe in God, then God saves us (Hebrews 7:25) and leads us into the abundant life God intends for us.

    1. You make a really good point. It’s not just advice for Christians, it’s good for all. The heart is where we find lust, jealousy, greed. It is emotion based. The brain is more reliable but it fools us too. The word of God is the truth and the secret to a peaceful meaningful life.
